Guess who's reporting for duty at 0700 Monday morning? I'm going on active duty. For the next six months I'll be busting my ass on the border trying to protect us from the Mexicans. I'm really not looking forward to it. Who wants to spend all their time in Sonoita? Not me. The pay is going to be excellent. It's a good way to get welding experience. But honestly, I wish there were a way to stay in Phoenix and get paid. What can you do? This is the best way to make ends meet. Anyway, I leave in the morning. I should be back next weekend for the holidays. Supposedly the next two weekends are four-day weekends. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it's true.
*UPDATE*
I haven't received orders to go down to the border. I could go down there right now but there's no way to get paid and there's no way to be reimbursed for my travel or expenses. Apparently the process for creating military orders has been stopped for a few days. Basically what that means is I need to find a normal job. No more bumming around at my base and getting paid for it (unless it's a drill weekend).Current Mood: anxious

UA football coach Mike Stoops called the hit to Wildcats quarterback Willie Tuitama that gave him his third concussion of the season and knocked him out of Saturday's game against Arizona State a "cheap shot."
ASU coach Dirk Koetter said he did not see the play."Our goal was not to knock Tuitama out of the game," he said. "I don't know what happened. Any time a player on any team has to leave the game because of injury, it's too bad. You're not trying to beat the other team because they got guys hurt.
ASU can't beat Arizona fair and square so they take out the quarterback. There's no way Koetter didn't see the play. It was a 15-yard penalty. Taking Tuitama out of the game had to be part of their plan.Current Mood: angry

Did anybody hear about this scholarship? It's about time.
There are so many double standards in the world. Do you think Carlos Mencia and Dave Chapelle are funny? Do you think Michael Richards was severely out of line in his recent standup act? The only difference is the color of the skin. Black face? Not funny. Ted Danson did black face at Whoopi Goldberg's friar event. That came under heavy criticism. White face? Dave Chapelle does that on his show. These are held to two completely different standards. Ted Danson was never a slave-owner. Dave Chapelle was never a slave. What's the big deal?
Seriously, how many african-american scholarships are available? How many hispanic scholarships? Asian? Native American? Don't give me that hardship stuff. I don't care if you think I'm a bigot or ignorant. The only way to rid the world of racism is to stop the preferential treatment certain people get based upon their background.
It's late and I'm tired. Hopefully this little rant makes sense. |

What is it that makes fast food workers so slow? I'm not talking about how they do job their job. This is an issue with involving critical thinking skills. If I order a burger by name then "Would you like the combo?" is an acceptable question. However, if I order a meal by number and am asked "Would you like the combo?" there is a problem.
That's about it. Life is good. I've been on orders at the guard for a month. We're getting ready for an exercise. This office has been busy teaching all kinds of classes and creating simulation kits. I've still found time to check sports scores and track my fantasy football team. I've 4-6. Three games left and I'm two games out of a wild card spot. I won last weekend, and I need to win this weekend. Very important note about fantasy football: don't go with your favorite team. I benced Peyton in favor of Leinart. How stupid of a move is that? I could've won a few games if I left Manning in. I'd be in a good position.
Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) is the big Magic Mountain trip. My apartment is looking so good these days. I think it's time to throw a house-warming party. You're all invited, even you Buckeyes fans.

| » Nascar in HD |
My parents have a new 50" plasma screen. It's super sweet. I've been watching a lot of college football in hi-def on espn and tonight I was able to see Kasey Kahne win in hi-def. I've also plugged my Xbox 360 into the tv. I got in a little trouble but I didn't mind. The picture was super crisp. 1080i display.
Speaking of Nascar, Kasey has a nice shot of making it into the Chase. He's got five wins, the most of anybody on the circuit. For him to not be in the Chase is a tragesty (tragedy + travesty).
I'm back on Xbox Live. I forgot that after your subscription runs out, your gamertag expires. It can never be used again. If anybody is on there, look for me as Mike3E9. I play a lot of Halo 2.
I think people are sabatoging the Xbox 360 system. None of the Nascar games are backwards compatible. In fact, the new Nascar game isn't being released on the system. Both Madden games SUCK. In 06 Madden's voice was included a little. In 07 only his picture and his name are in the game. And on top of that, MLB2K6 is a disaster. I purchased this game, and it ran fine. My system has a wireless adapter, and it automatically connects to Live if there's a wireless connection it detects. Well, I downloaded the patch for the game. And guess what. It froze. It's happened to a lot of people. The game is completely unplayable. 2K sports says they are hard at work with a solution. In the meantime, they offer the short-fix of inserting three different games into the system and letting them reach the title screen. Then insert their game. It didn't work for me. I want a refund.
I have a lot of free time, so if anybody wants to hang out give me a call.

I hardly go out to shows anymore. Remember the days of going to a show every week? And every once in a while actually playing a show? I miss that. I'd like to make an effort to not only go to more concerts, but to start playing music again. I've been trying to get with DT and Blake for a while, but we've never all gotten together at the same place. I don't even have hopes of writing a bunch of original stuff or anything. Just getting together and playing some covers in a garage could be fun. I have that purple Ibanez and a crate halfstack. They haven't been put to much use. It's time to change that.

I'm torn on this movie. The first was was funny. In fact, it was hilarious. I was loving it. The second half? It blew. I actually got up to stretch my legs in the latter part of the movie. My advice is go see the first half, then when it gets to the "that's just sad" portion of the humor, take a walk. Come back for the last 20-30 minutes. The movie was funny, the story was boring.
Also, I'm still trying to figure out why it took a huge jump in the timeline. The movie opens up wite late 90's-style cars. ESPN is doing the broadcasting. Drivers are wearing helmets with no shields, only the bug goggles. Then, boom--Nextel's the sponsor. We've got the FOX guys doing a race, and the crappy NBC guys covering a race. There are shields on the helmets. They even jumped from 76 to Sunoco during the movie. Can anybody explain why there was so much shifting occuring when they were racing at Talladega? It's my understanding that drivers try not to use the brakes on the track, so why would drivers not be in the highest gear?
Authority Zero is playing on the 26th. Anybody going?

This is going to sound bad, but I've devoted a good part of my life to poker. I'm watching whatever poker is on tv. Celebrity Poker, WSOP, Poker Superstars, even that PokerDome crap. Not only that, but I've been studying poker. I've read two books in the past month, and am soaking things in like a sponge. Caculating odds is a lot easier. I've caught some bad beats, but that's how it goes. Last week I played online at a .10/.25 no-limit table with ten dollars. I walked away with 43 in half an hour. So far that's my greatest feat. This may sound over-the-top, but I'd like to save 1,500 to enter a WSOP event next year. Did I mention I play every day? Either on PokerStars or on my PS2 WSOP game.
I haven't had much luck in the relationship department as of late. A fear of rejection is hard to overcome. It's always been there. I suppose putting forth some effort would help me break it. I went out about a month ago with a friend, and she ended up getting the number of the waitress for me. I had planned to call a few days later, but never did. The napkin with the number is still on my fridge. I've started working out again. Remember how I looked a few years ago? I hope to get that body back. It's a long road, but I can do it.
I'm still having weird dreams. It's a little awkward. Ok, it's very awkward. I don't know what to do. Maybe they'll continue until I start actively dating? All the more reason to put myself out there. I know the worst thing that can happen is 'no' but the embarassment of being rejected kind of sucks.
The power went out at my apartment today. The whole block lost power. I guess I'll go home and hope it's back on.

My car was broken into on Friday. Either late morning or early afternoon, somewhere between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. I was at my apartment getting ready for a new job as an augmentee for security forces. Somebody was able to pop my front passenger window out of place near the top and unlocked the door. My stereo was ripped out of the car, and all my cds were jacked. My backpack and the bag with all my equipmeent was stolen (including bulletproof vest). Luckily the culprit pulled the top of the window back, and left a nice set of prints. The person also cut themselves and there was some blood left on the window.
I made a report, which was different than I imagined. I waited around two hours, only to receive a phone call from the responding officer. That made me sad. Luckily the blood and the fingerprints were enough to have a CSI unit sent down. The lady was nice, and she informed me that it would take about a month for the prints, and a few months for the DNA sample. In the meantime I'm searching for the box my stereo came in. If I can find that I can get the serial number and the police can check pawn shops to see it anybody sold it. My alternate plan is to go down to Audio Express and ask if my info is still on record.
As for the music that was stolen, it's just depressing. All my Fourbanger cds. All my Sixth Year Senior stuff. My After the Burn album. Authority Zero. 50 Cent. Hall 13 (which I had recently started listening to again). So much music, and it's all gone.
My dashboard is torn up as well. The thief literally ripped the plastic around my stereo off, and I have to get the entire piece (which extends up and over to my steering wheel and my instrument panel) replaced. I hope they find who did it. If they do, can I sue? Having items stolen from my car, which is parked 100 feet from the patio of my apartment, causes a bit of stress. Having military equipment stolen and possibly being held accountable for it causes even more stress.
Through the past few months I've become a person who doesn't show stress on the outside, and I don't let many things get to me, but this is bothering me on the inside. I don't really show it, but I'm very upset. If I were to find who did this, by some miracle, I cannot be held responsible for my actions. Ok, I can, but I will cause serious harm.

Here's the deal. My friend Kate is trying to get a few people over at my apartment for some drinks. It's my new apartment, and the television is a decent size (ain't that right, Rich?) so come hang out. It's all going down Friday night.
p.s. I'll try to get a poker game going. It all depends on how many people show up.

Wow. Quite possibly the craziest two weeks I've ever experienced. North Carolina was so wonderful. I'd love to live out there some day. Not only because there were atleast three tracks within a few hours of where I was staying (Richmond, Darlington, Lowe's) but because the area looked so great.
I suppose people want to know what I experienced. We took a C-130, and the flight was about five and a half hours long. Arrived at the Coast Guard base in Elizabeth City, got a quick briefing, and went to base housing. That night we scoped out the club on base. Not much going on, but we were told Friday was the day to come out.
Sunday was a half day. We had to report in the afternoon and had some more briefings. We were given our projects, and I was part of the team that would be working on the runway apron. There were a few potholes and cracks that needed to be fixed.
This is where the days start to run together. Monday was cloudy and rainy. I ended up working with a different group that day, tearing shingles off of some ramadas near the river bank.
Tuesday was a lot of the same, and the day was cut short due to a thunderstorm. Wednesday was when our crew got down and dirty. We spent the afternoon using a cement saw trying to cut out the pieces that needed to be replaced. Power tools are fun, especially when they have 20" blades. Thursday was the pour for the basket ball court, and we were pulled away to work on that. It's a pain in the ass to pour cement. Throughout Friday and I think Monday we were tearing up the cut slabs and prepping it for the new cement.
That middle weekend was the highlight of the trip. Saturday was a trip to the Outer Banks, which is a strip of Islands. We went to Cape Hatteras and saw the lighthouse. That was interesting to see. The beach was being washed away by the ocean, and the lighthouse needed to be moved to a new spot 2700 feet away. It took 33 days to move the lighthouse to its current position, and it took a team of civil engineers to figure out how to move that lighthouse without making it topple over. They constructed a rail system, and the lighthouse couldn't be tipped more than one degree without possibly having it fall over.
After the lighthouse we went to Kitty Hawk and checked out the Wright Brothers Museum. I loved that place.
There was a night earlier in the week, I believe it was Thursday, when we checked out a wonderful establishment named Headlights. Have you noticed I have some stupid ideas while drinking? Ideas such as "No, you guys go ahead, I'll catch a cab home". Bad idea. I stumbled out at 12:30 and started walking the wrong way home. I got my bearings and noticed a group of people near the wharf. Who knew it was a bacholerette party? We talked for about half an hour, and then they took off. I won't go into the details of why. I began my trek home, wondering if I would see a taxi driving around. Nope. About a mile down the road I realized my phone had the ability to look up businesses (yes, I was a little buzzed). I called three different places and they were closed. I started walking home. Five miles. I called three different people that night. Three hours later I was home. Went to sleep at 3:30, woke up at 6:00 for work.
Sunday (my birthday) was spend at Virginia Beach. This was the only place I saw that served Guiness. They had 32 oz beers. Yummy.
The following week was much of the same. Pouring concrete, putting shingles back onto the roof. This whole day-by-day thing just isn't working out. Way too much typing.
The following Wednesday we ventured back to Headlights. For some reason one of the dancers told me her real name and wanted me to find her on myspace. So far no luck. Her stage name was Roxy, and I swear she said her real name was Billie.
All in all it was fun. I didn't want to come back. The weather was near perfect. High 70's on a warm day. Mid 50's at night. Perfect. The pay wasn't bad either, and I got free meals.
Tomorrow is moving day. Who's coming with me?

The good news is I'm going on a deployment. I'll be learning some new Civil Engineering skills, and I'll definitely be having fun.
The bad news is I'm going to be gone for two weeks. I'll be gone for my birthday (which is my move-in day). Let's hope there's a library on the base I'm going to. How else will I feed my myspace addiction? It'll be two weeks without my Silent Hill games. Two weeks without MLB 2K6. Two weeks of somebody else feeding my gecko.
I've been looking forward to this. It was touch-and-go for a while. We're leaving Saturday and I didn't find out until today after work that I was going. To those of who (if any) who were going to help me move, it's being postponed. Look to either May 13th or 14th for that. I'm going to put in a request at work to have the 14th off to move, but that may not work.
The ballgames are still in my agenda. Braves taking on the D'Backs at Chase Field. If anybody wants to go, tell me. I'll get some tickets and you'll just have to pay me back. I plan on sitting behind the 1st base dugout.
I'll miss you all, some more than others, while I'm gone. But I'll have my phone. You can text or im me.
